Stories in Stitch

This masterclass focuses on my signature style of hand embroidered illustration. Together, we will explore several stitching techniques, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch, as well as the use of hand stitched text. I will also help you get started with simple appliqué and patching.

During the class, there will always be time to explore any questions you might have about my signature techniques.

I will show you a selection of my original artwork and samples and then I will direct you,
as you embark on your journey of creating your own stitched story in my signature style.

You will choose to work either on a flat, layered fabric panel, or to construct and then
work on a simple, fabric book, using appliqué and hand stitching as your main techniques. The natural fabric for both will be part of the kit that you will be given at the start of
your class. This kit will also contain a selection of pre-cut fabric motifs, ready for you

to appliqué directly onto your work.

As with all my masterclasses, I suggest you approach this day as an explorative and peaceful slow-stitching experience, while being inspired by my original artwork and materials that will surround you at my studio. I encourage you to enjoy this creative day without focusing too much on finishing your work. Allow yourself to embrace and learn new techniques. And finally, do remember to bring a sketchbook and make any notes to
help you finish your work, if you still need to, at home.

Narrative Patchwork

This masterclass focuses on my signature style of patching and appliqué techniques, combined with fine hand embroidered illustration. Together, we will explore several

of my key stitching techniques, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch.
Hand stitched text will also be used.

During the class, there will always be time to explore any questions you might have about my signature techniques.

I will show you a selection of my original artworks to inspire you. Then I will direct you
as you start to create your own stitched story, in my signature style of narrative patchwork.

You will be working on natural cotton fabric as your base layer/canvas. This fabric will

be included in the kit given to you at the start of your masterclass. The kit will also contain
a selection of pre-cut fabric motifs, ready for you to appliqué directly onto your work.

You will be encouraged to work quickly at first to build up your patchwork base, layer
by layer. This should allow you enough time later on to work into this base, adding finer
 details and an overall narrative.

You will be working on a flat but densely layered construction, using appliqué, patching
and hand stitching as your main techniques.

And finally, do remember to bring a sketchbook and make any notes to
help you finish your work, if you still need to, at home.

been silkscreen printed with an original illustration of mine (you will be able to choose
the exact design, when you arrive at my studio).

Embroider & Repair

The main focus of this masterclass is to give new life to a preloved and worn item, as well as creating a beautiful one-off memento by using my style of mindful delicate mending.

Together, we will explore several signature techniques of mine, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch, and I will help you get started with simple appliqué
and patching. Hand stitched text will also be used, as will traditional darning techniques.

During the class, there will always be time to explore any questions you might have about my signature techniques.

I will direct you as I share with you how I celebrate and use pre-loved items and objects as my canvases, by working directly on them. I will also show you a selection of my original artwork to inspire you at the start of the class.

It is vital that you bring with you a garment or fabric object that you have specially chosen to mend and embellish, such as a pre-loved item from your own wardrobe, or maybe some children’s or doll’s clothing, or a favourite worn cushion or other household item. Perhaps you have something that belonged to a beloved family member or friend tucked away? Note that you do not have to create something wearable. You may, for example, be inspired to make something similar to my sculptural, one-off artworks that, once complete, can be framed and hung in your home.

I also strongly suggest bringing items made solely from natural fabric, which is easier to embellish using embroidery, mending and patching techniques.

You will be given a kit that includes several items to help you get started, including a selection of pre-cut fabric motifs, ready for you to appliqué directly onto your work.

It is vital that you bring with you a cherished pre-loved tablecloth (of any size) that you have specially chosen to mend and embellish. Perhaps you have something that belonged

Fabric Storybooks

This masterclass focuses on my signature style of making fabric storybooks. You will learn how to use hand embroidered illustration and hand stitched text to fill your book.

We will explore storytelling, using several of my signature stitching techniques, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch. I will also help you get started with simple appliqué and patching.

During the class, there will always be time to explore any questions you might have about my signature techniques.

I will direct and encourage you, the maker, to embark on creating your own stitched and patched storybook in my signature style. I will also show you a selection of my original fabric storybooks and embroidered artwork to inspire you.

You will be working directly onto a pre-made fabric book, using appliqué and hand stitching as your main techniques. This book can be constructed on the day as part of your class or you can purchase a ready-made book in advance, hand stitched together by me, for an additional cost of £45. It will measure 75cm x 15cm and can be folded or rolled on the day. Think of my unique pre-constructed book design as one double-sided long page for your personal story to unravel onto.

 my signature style.

The main focus of this masterclass is to create a beautiful one-off memento. The kit you
are given at the start of the class will include a selection of my pre-printed pin cushion designs. You can work on just one design during the class or, if you are a speedy crafter,
you can enjoy working on several.

It is vital that you bring a selection of fabrics for backing your pin cushions with (backing fabric is not included in your kit). Select fabrics that can be cut to 20cm x 20cm. I would recommend florals and checked designs in cotton or linen – and nothing too thick!

Completing Unfinished Projects

Sometimes you may need some fresh ideas to complete a project you have started in
a previous workshop with me and may now be struggling to finish at home. If you are
finding it hard to reach that magical moment of renewed drive and inspiration, then
this could be the perfect masterclass for you.

This private masterclass will give you extra one-to-one time with me to work on
any project(s) that you started in one of my previous masterclasses, or on any of my signature slow-stitch projects. Feel free to bring more than one unfinished item

to work on if you wish.

Our time together will be focused entirely on you – the maker. We will start with looking
at everything you have brought along, addressing your concerns and making a clear plan
for how to achieve your goals. We can also explore any questions you may have about techniques, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch, as well as simple appliqué and patching.

As with all my masterclasses, I suggest you approach this day as an explorative and peaceful slow-stitching experience, while being inspired by my original artworks and materials that surround you at my studio.
